membership, and I have to suggest that Justices of the

Peace should take the prescribed oaths before a Police

Magistrate.

2.

A question has arisen as to

349

whether it is necessary that the same officer should take

the prescribed oath or oaths more than once in respect of

the same office. I understand that the practice varies in

different Crown Colonies. Here the recent practice has

been not to require a second oath on re-appointment to an

office in respect of which the oath has already been once

taken by the officer. I shall be glad to have Your Lord-

-ship's ruling on this point and your direction as to

whether the point should be settled by inserting express

words in the Ordinance.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's most obedient,

hurible servant,

Amaz

Officer Administering the Govern-

-ment.
